Stainless and heat resisting steels, anti-corrosion alloys
| Stainless
steels are used for a number of applications
requiring corrosion resistance. This specifity, due to their minimum chromium content of
10.5 % can be improved according to media aggressivity by increasing the chromium content
or eventually adding nickel and molybdenum. The martensitic, magnetic steels with 13 % chromium, fit for quenching and tempering mechanical elements (arbor, bucket, pump or valve body) cutlery, surgical instruments, fittings... The ferritic and magnetic steels with 17 % chromium household equipments, carmaking, interior decoration, etc... |
The austenitic, non-magnetic steels with 18 % chromium and 9 % nickel, softened by hyper-quenching. and hardened by cold beating : chemical and food industries, transport equipment, building, cryogeny, screws and bolts, etc... Also belong to this category, the austenic, austenitic-ferritic and super-austenitic steels, resisting to severe corrosions (offshore, paper pulp, chemistry...) non magnetic... The heat resisting steels, with high content of chromium and nickel resist to corrosion, oxidation and hot flow and are used in the heating or treatment furnaces. |
